PARTICULAR TRAIT:
MODERN ALCHEMIST WITH A DOCTORATE IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
IT WAS IN THE GARDEN OF HER GRANDMOTHER,
an herbalist in her day, that Véronique Nyberg discovered plants in the Alpes de Haute-Provence. Her playground was a bed of “simples,” those modest and familiar herbs from which the primordial essences for perfumery are made. She learned smells from them, of course, but also their benefits, tasting them in herbal teas. She was introduced to the vegetal world and its power. This anchoring in nature would go on to influence the course of her career.

SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION OF NATURE
She chose chemistry as a mode of scientific exploration of these fascinating resources. And because she never does anything halfway. she continued her quest all the way to a doctorate. She adhered to the avant-garde in research, with an upcycling topic that demonstrated a taste for transformation. It was in the capacity of a chemist that she then entered IFF and a new chapter began: “The things that inspire me and move me add up in the meaning of a destiny I conceived myself,” she reveals. With one thing leading to another, she wove her path, training in fragrance and joining the prestigious circle of internationally recognized perfumers. There was no lack of success stories. Her direct and contrasted style established itself, as behind each of her creations lies the desire to transport emotionally. To be a catalyst of happiness. Through her innate sense of the material, she unveils the nature of things and of life. This happens in the same manner as in the cuisine that she is partial to, through precious ingredients being showcased with simplicity but in a way that does them justice. It’s a little like how the singular spice glorifies a product of superior quality: “I like to work in such a way that the elements don’t come by chance. Everything must make sense.”
CREATIVITY & TRANSMISSION
This starting point for her formulation is also what guided her at MANE in the role of Vice President of Creation – Fine Fragrance. Involved in researching novel raw materials, natural and synthetic, she reconnects with high-level chemistry to be able to expand the palette of sustainable and remarkable innovations. Original trends often arise that she seizes and anticipates, thanks to a keen instinct.
HER INSPIRATIONS : ART & CONTRASTED SENSATIONS
And once again, this momentum is made possible because she is deeply grounded and recharges herself by literally plunging her hands into the earth, which is what she does while gardening at her home or even with the clay that she sculpts: “I am crazy about its warm and spicy odor.” A frank and sensual relationship with the world that defines her and guides her to the right place.
Attentive to her sensations, of what she experiences and what touches her, she knows how to oscillate between interior and exterior realms in order to create. She nourishes herself with as much sculpture, painting, music and design as architecture. In these domains, the artists she admires – which include those of the Auvers-sur-Oise school, the trailblazers Tadao Ando and Jean Nouvel, or even Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin, with
their different styles – all have a gift for eliciting emotion out of contrast and through the intimacy with material. To translate the immaterial, be it shadow, light, or line, and create a disruption: This is a vision that these creators have in common and one which she shares.
And to prove the importance of the oxymoron in her universe, she gracefully walks along the edges of territories that would ordinarily be in opposition but which she likes to reconcile: emotion & reason, intuition & tangible, chemistry & sorcery, innate & acquired, animal & vegetal. A tightrope walker who flourishes in the balance.
There’s another mission that falls to her: the training of young talent through traditional mentorship. In this exercise, she transmits the taste for exactitude and a stimulating positive energy for grasping this profession: “I see myself as a coach who helps one to advance, a mentor who shows passion and makes one grow.” This constructive outlook resonates with her cultural curiosity, open to the diversity of the world. An asset in our ever-more-rapidly evolving society, where connectivity and teamwork are imperatives for going further and higher.
